Prof. Ron Johnson,

As the University of Washington's CIO & CTO, and as a tenured faculty member in the Information School and Computer Science & Engineering, Vice President Ron Johnson is actively engaged in cyber-infrastructure oriented research projects involving Next Generation Network technologies and infrastructure; super-high resolution and/or low latency broadband/HD video; and 'ocean observatory' submarine network technologies.
Ron is a co-founder of various organizations including Internet2, National LambdaRail (NLR) and the ResearchChannel and serves as a PI or co-principal investigator on a number of active research projects. He is a participant in other R&D activities such as the CineGrid and the Digital Well. In an earlier era, he helped establish the initial Internet, and his teams developed key internet technologies including Pine, the key elements of IMAP and various forms of high resolution streaming and on-demand media.
Ron is Chairman of the Board of KEXP-FM/KEXP.ORG, widely recognized as an innovative, influential cultural force in the Seattle community and beyond.
